MADIUN, MCE – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has intensified its investigation into the Madiun City Government’s bureaucracy. In a sweeping operation linked to the ongoing extortion and gratification case involving the non-active Mayor of Madiun, Maidi, anti-graft investigators targeted the City’s Education Office to secure pivotal evidence.
On Wednesday (Jan 28), the atmosphere at the Madiun City Education Office turned somber as a team of KPK investigators arrived for an intensive search. For several hours, officials combed through various departments to trace the connection between educational administration and the illicit financial schemes currently under scrutiny.
KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed that this move is a pro-justitia procedure aimed at completing the case file for the suspect, Maidi. "Investigators conducted a search at the Madiun City Education Office as part of the ongoing investigation into alleged corruption," Budi stated in an official briefing on Thursday (Jan 29).
The operation yielded significant results. From the premises, investigators seized several items believed to substantiate the allegations of criminal activity, including:
- Tens of Millions in Cash: The team secured cash totaling tens of millions of rupiah, suspected to be linked to gratification practices. The KPK is currently tracing the origin and intended destination of these funds.
- Formal Documentation: Reams of project procurement files and financial reports were confiscated for further forensic analysis.
- Electronic Evidence: Digital devices were also seized to recover communication logs and transaction trails that may have been hidden or deleted.
The wave of searches did not stop at the Education Office. As of Thursday (Jan 29), investigators reportedly continued their operations at the Madiun Mayor’s Office. This marathon of raids signals the KPK’s determination to dismantle the structural "tributes" or extortion schemes allegedly involving high-ranking regional officials.
